EIG x Galactech — Bright future for the Middle East & North African esports

Esports Innovation Group (EIG) and Galactech enters partnership to deliver best in class solutions to businesses and epic experiences to gamers in the region.

  • North Africa’s first and largest official Free Fire League launched in early August 2021
  • Esports Innovation Group (EIG), partners to develop esports in the Middle East & North African region
  • Group looks to work with local esports veterans Galactech and provide support for region development

With the sweeping global success of Garena’s mobile game — Free Fire, esports for the game title has grown in equal demand and popularity. The game’s biggest annual esports event, ‘Free Fire World Series 2021’ held in Singapore on 30th May 2021, hit an astonishing 5.4 million concurrent viewers who were glued to their screens cheering for their country’s representative teams. From the Middle East & North Africa region (MENA), Iraqi team VIP E-Sports took home $70,000 USD from the World Series prize pool of $2 million USD.

The MENA region has continued to show an exponential rise in players, audiences, and spending power. Arabic language streams were watched by 4.4 million users in UAE, Bahrain, Oman, and Saudi Arabia on the popular streaming platform Twitch. The region’s esports engagements are amongst some of the highest in ratio to esports familiarity, and amongst the most penetrated markets for mobile gaming globally as reported by YouGov in a 2020 report.

With big aspirations of establishing itself within the MENA region’s mobile-first market, EIG has partnered Galactech to assist in delivering its technology and sustainable esports ecosystems to the region, starting with North Africa’s first dedicated Free Fire League, the ‘Free Fire North African Series’ (FF NAS) which launched early August 2021.

“…This is a first step in creating a sustainable esports ecosystem, beyond this event, EIG will be activating our collective industry experience of over 50 years and tech solutions to help bring esports within the region to the next level.”

EIG’s co-founder Michael Broda shared, “We are thrilled to enter such a vibrant region with a highly engaged mobile-first gamer community. We are confident our partnership with our local esports partners Galactech will help us deliver a league gamers will love. This is a first step in creating a sustainable esports ecosystem, beyond this event, EIG will be activating our collective industry experience of over 50 years and tech solutions to help bring esports within the region to the next level.”

“Ambitious gamers and esports enthusiasts are very social and we are offering them a home.”

“This region is up and coming in esports — especially mobile. We need a platform for people to meet, play and win in a safe and comfortable environment. Ambitious gamers and esports enthusiasts are very social and we are offering them a home.” said Nik Adams, co-founder of EIG.

As the esports industry increased in momentum during the COVID-19 pandemic, interest has spiked amongst global brands and even government organisations. Investments in the space have shown to be an effective way to reach a new wave of young ‘digital first’ demographic that have begun to choose esports and games over traditional sports or media. With the industry’s growth showing no signs of slowing down, companies like EIG are focused on developing the digital infrastructure needed to support the evolving needs of esports players and audiences globally.

EIG’s entry would enable those in the MENA region to access the group’s offering of esports tech infrastructure and network of portfolio companies ranging from tournament engines, content distribution technology, AI solutions, and smart analytics. To further expand esports ecosystems within MENA, EIG plans to work with game publishers like Garena, Riot Games, Tencent Games, Supercell, and more.
