Concept to Launch in 1 month — ECON Esports Platform
Using EIG’s existing proprietary tech stack, B&M’s esports brand ECON launches a dedicated tournament platform connecting brands with the esports community in under a month

At the start of the year (4th January 2022), we announced our partnership with ECON, a joint venture between Esports Innovation Group (EIG) and B&M Marketing. They shared a common vision with us of developing grassroots and providing gamers with a solid foundation to kickstart their esports career in the DACH region. ECON.gg was to be the central hub for a community of gamers with aspirations of becoming icons in esports, giving them a home, and choosing ECON to be ‘The Heart of Esports’.
Patrick Schönfeld, Chief Product Officer (CPO) of ECON shared, “We wanted to have a place for gamers to be able to make friends, form teams, and compete. It was important to us to give them a place they could rely on and come back to. We had many ideas! EIG helped guide us on the key features to be rolled out in the first phase. Once this was decided, the speed at which we were able to get the platform up and running was phenomenal.”
Patrick Schönfeld, a former professional football player, is responsible for all products and strategic operations of the newly founded esports agency. This includes the tournament platform ECON.gg as well as the ECON Esports Academy, which has been teased on the platform.
The ECON Academy is a 360° coaching program for young talents from Esports. The combination of social responsibility, authenticity, quality, and reach sets the Academy apart from all other existing programs.
Within the Academy program, participants not only learn about important topics such as fitness, personal development, and nutrition in the workshops but also how to put them into practice.
There are many features we plan on rolling out onto the ECON platform such as the ECON Esports Academy and more. In the meantime, we will be listening closely to the gamers and actively collecting feedback to continuously improve ECON.gg.

About Patrick
Patrick Schönfeld most recently worked for B&M Marketing as Senior Manager Sports and Esports since September 2021. Before that, the 32-year-old had already successfully completed a six-month trainee program at the marketing agency of the Axel Springer publishing house after the end of his active soccer career. In his active career, the Nuremberg native played more than 150 games in the 2nd Bundesliga and 83 in the 3rd Liga, most recently with SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
